The 7 days combined Uganda Rwanda safari is an interesting and adventurous safari that will start from Kampala and end in Kigali. The safari will take you to Kibale national park where you will have a face to face interaction with the chimpanzees in their natural environment during chimpanzee trekking, visit Queen Elizabeth national park which is one of the most visited national parks in Uganda situated in southwestern Uganda. Queen Elizabeth national park is a home of abundant wildlife species including animals like buffaloes, elephants, hippos, lions, leopards, Uganda kobs, warthogs, giant forest hogs, waterbucks, bushbucks, bird species hornbills, fish eagle, cormorants which will be viewed during the game drive and boat cruise on Kazinga channel. From Queen Elizabeth national park you will transfer to Volcanoes national park in Rwanda where you will participate in gorilla trekking, golden monkey trekking, cultural tour and city tour in Kigali as you wrap up your safari.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1 of the 7 days Uganda Rwanda safari

Transfer to Kibale national park, on the first day of your 7 days Uganda Rwanda safari you will be welcomed by our driver guide at Entebbe international airport who will give you a briefing about your safari and then start the journey to in southern region. On your way you will have great views of beautiful scenery, landscape, tea plantations among others. Upon arrival in the park you will drive to the lodge check in, have dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park

Chimpanzee trekking, on the second day of your 7 days Uganda Rwanda safari you will have an early breakfast, check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing about chimpanzee trekking. You will be briefed about the rules, regulations and expectations of chimpanzee trekking where after you will be grouped into a group of 6, allocated a chimpanzee group to trek and a park guide who is well conversant with the chimpanzee trails in the forest.

Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale national park starts at around 8:00am and takes 30 minutes to 4 hours. During trekking you will have spectacular views of plant species, bird species, primates like l’hoest monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys among others. Once the chimpanzees are found you will spend one hour with them in their natural environment observing their behaviors, habits, lifestyle, taking photos, videos among others. After the interaction with the chimpanzees you will trek back to the park headquarters meet up with your driver guide and start the journey to Queen Elizabeth national park.

Transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park, on your way to the park you will have en-route lunch in Fort Portal and then continue with the journey. Upon arrival you will drive through the park with great views of animals as you drive to the lodge. Upon arrival you will check in, have dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Morning game drive/lion tracking and afternoon Boat cruise

Game drive, on the third day of your 7 days Uganda Rwanda safari, you will have breakfast and then meet up with your driver guide to transfer for the morning game drive or lion tracking experience in Kasenyi plains. During the game drive you will also be able to see various animal species such as the leopards, lions, elephants, Uganda kobs, waterbucks, buffaloes, bushbucks, warthogs, bush pigs, and bird species such as the papyrus gonolek, white backed night heron, yellow throated cuckoo, red chested sunbird, white winged warbler among others. After the game drive which takes you will drive back to the lodge for lunch.

Boat cruise, after lunch you will meet up with your driver guide and transfer for the afternoon boat cruise at Kazinga channel, a water body that joins Lake George and Lake Edward. the boat cruise takes about 2 hours and during this interesting activity you will be able to cruise near the animals such as the elephants, buffaloes, waterbucks, warthogs which will be viewed along the water bucks, hippos and Nile crocodiles in water, water birds such as martial eagle, papyrus gonolek, pelicans, African skimmers, cormorants, African spoonbills, fish eagles, king fisher’s among others.

After the boat cruise you will drive to Lake Katwe which was formed through volcanic eruption. During the salt lake tour you will be able to see local people extracting rock salt from the main lake to the landing area for sell. You will also visit Lake Munyanyange which is 2kms away from Lake Katwe which harbors different bird species such as the flamingos, pied avocet, black winged stilt, black terns, sea gulls among others. After the crater lakes tour, you will drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Transfer to Volcanoes national park

Transfer to Volcanoes national park, after an early breakfast on the fourth day of your 7 days Uganda Rwanda safari you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Volcanoes national park via Ishasha sector in southern part of Queen Elizabeth national park. Ishasha sector harbors the tree climbing lions which will be viewed lying up in the fig tree branches staring at the antelopes. After the game drive in Ishasha sector you will have lunch and then continue with the journey to Volcanoes national park via Cyanika border in Kisoro. Upon arrival you will check into the lodge, have dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes national park

Gorilla trekking, after an early breakfast on the fifth day of your 7 days Uganda Rwanda safari you will carry packed lunch and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Kinigi park headquarters for the briefing about gorilla trekking. After the briefing you will be grouped into 8 people, allocated a gorilla family to trek and a park guide who is well conversant with the trails in the jungle. Gorilla trekking in volcanoes national park takes 30 minutes to 6 hours depending on the location of the gorillas.

Once the gorillas are found you will spend one hour with them in their natural habitat where you will get an opportunity to learn more about their behaviors, habits, watching them feed, breastfeed, take photos with flash less camera and record the moments which gives you unforgettable experiences on your safari. After the gorilla trekking safari you will trek back to the park headquarters, meet up with your driver guide and transfer to the lodge for an evening relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Golden monkey trekking and cultural tour

Golden monkey trekking, on the sixth day of your 7 days Uganda Rwanda safari you will meet up with your driver guide and transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing about the expectations, rules and regulations to follow during golden monkey trekking. After the briefing you will start trekking in the jungle with a park guide which takes 30 minutes to 4 hours depending on the location of the golden monkeys. Once the golden monkeys are found you will spend one hour with them in their natural habit where you will take photos, videos, learn about their behaviors, habits, lifestyle, watch them jump up in trees among others. After the one hour interaction with the golden monkeys you will trek back to the park headquarters meet up with your driver guide and drive to the lodge for lunch.

Cultural tour, after lunch you will go for a cultural tour where you will visit Ibyi’wacu cultural village. During the cultural tour you will be able to taste Kinyarwanda local food, locally brewed beer from bananas, participate in their traditional performances for example Kinyarwanda dance, get entertained through music, drama, storytelling among others. After the cultural tour you will transfer to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: City tour and departure

On the last day of your 7 days Uganda Rwanda safari you will have breakfast, check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to go for a city tour in Kigali. During the city tour you will visit Kigali genocide where you will learn more about the blood shading of the 1994 Rwanda genocide, craft markets where they make paintings, sculptures, visit Kimironko local market where you will meet the local people selling different items such as souvenirs, market vendors selling fruits, vegetables, handmade crafts like mats, baskets, cultural sites like Kandt museum of natural history among others. After the city tour you will go for a buffet at hotel des mille Collins or any of the hotels in Kigali. After lunch you will start the journey to Kigali international airport for your next flight
